Gerhart-Hauptmann-Museum

The Gerhart-Hauptmann-Museum found 1987 its home place in the former Villa Lassen, where the poet and its family lived in the ground floor from 1885 to 1889. The first three sons were born here. Hauptmann became here, in a landscape full of beauty with forests, meadows and lakes after heavy illness again healthy. And especially here in Erkner, he found to its calling as a poet, where his first literarily remarkable works emerged: the novels "Fasching" and “Bahnwärter Thiel", the "Biberpelz", that first play "Vor Sonnenaufgang" that made the poet with a blow well known through the ongoing tumults during in the premiere. So Hauptmann was able to assess later with right: "I lived four years in Erkner… the four years became four corner stones for my work."

Next to a permanent display, that gives an overview over life and work, the museum offers a repertoire of literarily-musical events, holds the Ivo-Hauptmann-Archive and an extensive Gerhart-Hauptmann-Research Library.
